The Belmar Bike Shop service facility is carrying on the legacy of the 55 year old bike shop that we inhabit.
We are the holders of generations upon generations of repair equipment and the knowledge & experience to use it.
We strive to stay ahead of future technologies and their proper service methods as well as developing our own techniques to do work that is often more thorough than industry standards.
Countless bikes have been built and serviced here at 1318 main street and countless more will.
-
Our process is simple for you.
.
1) Drop your bike off.
(No appointments necessary) Inform us of your problems and give us specific requirements if you have them. We work out a timeframe together.
.
2) Servicing.
We coordinate and perform everything for you. All you do is keep an eye our for our correspondences letting you know when the bike is ready or if we have additional questions.
.
3) Payment and Pickup.
We can provide you a secure link for remote payment if you need someone pick up the service for you -or- you can pay in person when you come pick up.
.
4) Ride your bike!
-
We keep several separate service queues depending on the type and typical extent of the service.
Accessory installs: 2 hrs or less.
Tire repair: 24 hours or less.
Ala carte services: 2-3 days.
Tune ups: 7-10 days.
*Peak periods will certainly effect these estimates. For example: During summer holiday weeks, expect these timeframes to inflate by as much as double. Adversely, stormy weeks, these timeframes may shrink by half.
-
Flat rate pricing.
Competitively priced; common services that are routine and predictable tasks for us.
.
Hourly rate.
Unpredictable, uncommon and or time consuming services are billed at $100 per hour.
.
Both pricing methods are results-based and billed honestly. Essentially, you aren't being billed for any wasted time.
-
we stand by the work we put into the world.
We back our service with a 30 day guarantee.
If the problem we tended to persists, please come back within 30 days and we will make it right.

A bicycle is a remarkably efficient machine.
A loophole of sorts.
Its lightweight materials and design enable us to travel miles and miles at a pace that is faster than running, while exerting less energy than walking.
Even the heaviest of bikes are engineered to be lightweight and efficient enough to not only enjoyed by but also powered by a human, who on average can only produce a measly 1/4 horsepower.
In these machines that are engineered to be precise enough to glide along so effortlessly, longevity can only be achieved through maintenance!
Although certain pieces do usually last the lifetime of the bike, others do not and have to be replaced several times over that same lifespan.
Even the highest quality bicycle components wear out and corrode significantly faster than other familiar personal machines, such as automobiles or appliances. -
BRAKE PADS
RUBBER RIM BRAKE PADS - $10-20 PER BRAKE
DISC BRAKE PADS - $25 PER BRAKE
Brake pads are perhaps the most obvious wear part but wear is the cause for replacement only about half the time. Rubber brake pads harden, dry out and crack over long periods of time, no longer providing safe and reliable stopping.
Disc brake pads last a lot longer under normal use, but they are constructed of a porous material, so they are very susceptible to contamination from stray lubricants or, cleaners; even bug spray can make your disc brakes squeal instead of stop.

CABLES
$30 per custom tailored cable kit. (Brake, Derailler or Dropper)
Cables are the lifelines of the bike. They give you control of the brakes and gears, right at your fingertips.
Unfortunately most bikes come with plain galvanized steel inner cables, basic housings, and cheap housing caps that only last a season or two before corroding, deforming and binding.
When these effects get too extensive, simply lubricating the cables doesn’t usually regain the precise function required to achieve proper and safe control of your bike.
When we replace cables, we only use high quality slick-surface stainless steel inner cables, durable housing and sealed housing caps.
We have seen these upgraded replacements last 10+ seasons when regularly lubricated.
Tailoring the fit and routing the cables to the bike is a very skilled, precise, tedious and delicate operation that we take pride in.

DRIVETRAIN
5-8 speed drivetrain $60
9-10 speed drivetrain $80-120
12-13 speed drivetrain $140-600
The Bicycle drivetrain is comprised of the front sprockets (chainrings), the rear sprockets (cogs) and the chain.
Every pedal stroke you take transmits its energy to the rear wheel through these parts.
Drivetrain wear accumulates with mileage by actually stretching the chain links and deforming the teeth of the sprockets.
Worn drivetrains can cause skipping, poor gear shifting, and worst of all, chain breakage.
Mileage isn’t the only factor in the equation of drivetrain lifespan.
Lubrication is the other significant factor effecting drivetrain lifespan.
A regularly lubricated chain can get you many many seasons before needing replacement, which in turn, prolongs the sprockets as well.
On the other hand, a poorly lubricated chain allows significantly more friction. This slows you down and accelerates wear.
The absence of lubrication also allows rust and corrosion to take hold. It’s common to see a dry chain only last a very short time.
This condition is indicated by shiny, polished-looking rollers and/or rusty link plates and cogs.

GREASE
Grease $0
Sub-assembly rebuild labor $30-$70 each
Lubrication is what keeps your bike running smoothly, quietly and efficiently.
Grease is used on every fastener of a bike to prevent seizing and to achieve proper torque. Grease is used on 90% of mating metal surfaces to prevent creaeking. Grease is packed into every single bearing and every moving part on the bike to prevent wear and drag. The challenge of maintaining your bike is getting that grease where it belongs and then keeping it there. Unlike cars and other heavy equipment, bikes do not have grease ports for fast and easy re-lubrication, so disassembly, cleaning and reassembly is required to re-apply and maintain that grease.
The need for this operation is accelerated by hasty or excessive washing of the bike. So an easy way to avoid it is to clean your bike gently, with a damp cloth, only using low pressure running water if it’s totally necessary and making sure to avoid jetting into any bearings. escription
